Cepes Absolute, extracted from the Boletus edulis mushroom, is a remarkably complex and unconventional natural material prized for its deeply earthy, umami-rich aroma. Its scent evokes the damp, loamy depths of the forest floor—moist earth, decaying leaves, and the whisper of mycelium weaving through ancient roots. A hint of smoky woods and aged leather lingers in the background, adding depth and intrigue.

Used extremely sparingly in natural perfumery, this absolute lends a dark, velvety richness to compositions, enhancing the woody, mossy, and leathery facets of a fragrance or contrasting and elevating floral notes. It is particularly valued in chypre, forest-fougère, dark floral, and rich gourmand formulations, where its savoury warmth adds an enigmatic, almost feral quality.
